Bulk material

Bulk material is a broad term that designates all granular, free-flowing but also slow-flowing powder or granulates. The properties of bulk materials are determined by the grain size, bulk density, humidity and temperature.

A distinction is made between two groups: cohesion-less, i.e. free-flowing bulk materials and cohesive bulk materials.

Particularly cohesive bulk materials, when being removed from the container or the withdrawal station, tend to form bridges or chimneys that make removal difficult or even render it impossible.

LAB has particularly specialised in these dusty, respirable bulk materials, which do not flow easily either.

Bulk materials with a bulk density of S = 0.1 g/cm3 to S = 1.2 g/cm3 are not a problem for the LAB withdrawal technology.

Here, the bulk material is withdrawn free of dust in the completely closed system, weighed and conveyed to the production zone.

Particularly respirable bulk materials are subject to various ordinances. For example, during the processing in production, the ordinance of the workplace limit values (TRGS900), from the Bundesanstalt für Arbeitsschutz und Arbeitsmedizin (Federal German Institute for Occupational Safety and Health) or the REACH ordinance (EC no. 1907/2006) of the European Parliament and Council. There is total compliance with these ordinances with the LAB process engineering.

Abrasive bulk materials, which adversely stress machine components and bring about a high requirement of spare parts, are withdrawn and conveyed with the LAB technology without the engineering getting overly stressed.

With an integrated lump breaker in the LAB removal technology, even bulk materials with a tendency to solidify can be withdrawn easily.
