Bulk Material Extraction from Bags

Problem Statement

The transport of powdery, dusty bulk materials often still occurs from paper or plastic bags. Typically, only small quantities are used in production, making large stockpiles unprofitable or leading to changes in the product’s quality. A change in production often involves extensive modifications and, consequently, high conversion costs.

Solution

LAB offers two alternatives for extracting bulk materials from bags: the hand-held suction lance for minimal quantities or special batches, and the bag chute for small quantities, bag-by-bag dosing, or special components delivered only in paper bags.

Extraction Technology for Optimal Quantities: 2kg – 30kg per Batch

Advantages

Hand-Held Suction Lance

For extracting very small quantities or special components rarely used in production, the hand-held suction lance can automatically and precisely transfer the bulk material into production.

Manual bag slitting and transporting paper bags within production are eliminated since the extraction can take place in the bulk material storage area. This keeps the production workspaces clean and prevents damage to paper bags during internal transport.

Moreover, our customers often use the hand-held suction lance as a safety system. For example, if the delivery of a big bag or silo filling is delayed, the production can store a batch as a backup in paper bags and fully automatically extract it using the hand-held suction lance until the standard extraction technology is ready for use again. Recipes remain unchanged and only need to be adjusted in the LAB standard program at the extraction station.

Bag Extraction Station

If smaller batches are regularly extracted from paper bags in production, we recommend a bag extraction station.

While the operator fills the extraction station, we immediately extract the dust at the opening of the extraction station, ensuring the worker is protected during the filling process. We pay special attention to fulfill the machinery directive requirements regarding workplace exposure limits for dust.

The dust extraction system can be connected to an existing exhaust air system on-site or to the LAB dust extraction system. The emptied paper bags can be disposed through a side opening.

Once the extraction hopper is filled, the bulk material is automatically extracted using the LAB extraction into the LABOMAT for weighing.

The extraction from the bag chute is fully automatic using the LAB extraction patent.
